The 12 Step Journal
How long does The 12 Step Journal last for?
If used every day, the journal will last for a full 6 months, and there is a prompt in the book to remind you to order your next copy. If some days are missed, then the journal will last longer. We’re planning to release a 12 month version shortly.
Who is it for?
The 12 Step Journal is for anyone recovering from any addiction working a 12 Steps Program. It’s been designed to complement all 12 Step recovery programs and uses well proven tools of recovery. The journal works alongside recovery material provided by all 12 Step Fellowships such as AA, NA, SAA, CA, GA, OA, Al-Anon, Nar-Anon, ACA, HA, WA.
Importantly, the journal is equally valuable for those new to addiction recovery and those who have been in recovery for many years.
Is there a dated version?
The 12 Step Journal is deliberately undated, so you can start using it whenever you want, and it’s no problem if you miss a day.
Is there space for notes?
Yes, there is an entire Notes section, plus a Reflections section. Recovery often includes revelations and valuable learnings, so we’ve made sure to include plenty of space for these to be written down.
I have an idea for how to make the journal even better.
We’d absolutely love to hear any ideas you have for how the journal could be even better, and we actively seek feedback from our customers. Please contact us at recovery@12stepjournals.com, we reply to every message we receive. We look forward to hearing from you.
How is the book made?
The journal has a luxurious flexi-bound cover, which is halfway between a hardback and softback, ideal for writing in. The cover features silver foil stamping and embossing making it attractive and a pleasure to interact with. It features coloured endpapers featuring a unique design, 100 gsm high quality uncoated paper, and a ribbon page marker. A lot of care has been taken to ensure the journal looks and feels inviting, with top quality materials, making it an ideal gift for a loved one in recovery.
How to Use The 12 Step Journal
How does the journal work?
The 12 Step Journal has been created to be the hub of your recovery. It’s built around proven tools of recovery used by all of the major 12 Step Fellowships. By spending a few minutes in the morning and evening each day, you’ll consistently use these tools and work a better program, ultimately propelling you along the path to recovery and serenity.
How should I use the journal?
Consistency is the key, and it only takes a few minutes in the morning and evening. Exactly how each you use the journal is up to you, and a bit of experimentation is a good thing. One way to use the journal is:
Morning: Begin with prayer and meditation, and then with a clear mind look ahead and plan your day. Do your daily reading and spend a minute thinking about what you’ve read. Write down what’s on your mind, and use the daily reflection at the top of the page as food for thought. Decide how and if you are going to incorporate the other tools into your day, thinking about which ones would be most helpful for you that day. And, finally, ask yourself what you need to accept today.
Evening: At the end of the day, complete your personal inventory and then tick off the tools you have used that day, making a quick note of which ones you may want to use tomorrow. Then finish by jotting down some things you are grateful for from the day and in your life generally.
How do the weekly check-ins work?
At the end of each week, you’ll be given the opportunity to reflect back on the week, and to think about the week ahead. By reviewing the week as a whole, you’ll be able to spot patterns and get a feel for your direction of travel. You’ll be able to think about what has and hasn’t worked well for you that week, and where you need to focus your attention moving forward. You’ll be gently guided through this process. You can then look ahead and set your intentions and recovery activities for the upcoming week.
How do the clarity worksheets work?
These 8 brief worksheets give you the opportunity to examine some key areas of your addiction and recovery. The purpose is to complete them once, carefully and honestly. At the end of each week, as you’re working through the journal, you’ll be prompted to review some of these worksheets. By doing this, you’ll keep these important realities fresh in your mind, helping you to stay motivated and on track with your recovery activities. You can also update them where appropriate as you move ahead in your recovery and your understanding grows.
Can I use this journal with my sponsor/sponsee?
Absolutely! The 12 Step Journal is ideal for use between sponsors and sponsees. The insights you’ll gain from using the journal will make your sponsor’s job easier, and provide an honest overview of your progress. Many sponsors recommend this journal to their sponsees.
